Lakers 2008-2009 Champs!

It has been a roller coaster ride of a season and playoffs for these Los Angeles Lakers and by closing out the Orlando Magic this past Sunday in Game 5, they are once again the NBA champions.  The significant meaning of this championship is evident by its historical importance.  This will be Phil Jackson’s tenth NBA championship and he now surpasses Red Auerbach to be the greatest coach of the game of professional basketball.  This will also be Kobe Bryant’s first without Shaquille O’Neal. Our Zenmaster, maybe he'll get Ariza and Odom to return for less. However, I think the biggest significance above all to me is the fact this time around, the championship was built not over night but over 7 years.  Phil’s return and patience to teach and mentor this young group... Continue Reading...

Blaming GM for traffic problems in Los Angeles

Blaming GM for traffic problems in Los Angeles

If you’ve lived in Los Angeles long enough, you realize that it is not about distance in miles but approximate time it takes to get from place to place.  You also realize that seeking alternative commuting options are scarce and inconvenient and the only option left is to drive an automobile.  You learn to accept that a typical twenty mile drive commute to work that should take you 20 to 30 minutes will actually take you an hour or more.  This is Los Angeles.  A traffic nightmare for those living here within a county that spreads out over a fifty mile radius.  All created thanks to GM, the now bankrupt then government owned General Motors company. Commuter trains for Souther California. Welcome to Los Angeles!  It used to be that Los Angeles had one of the most robust network of... Continue Reading...

Visiting Dodger Stadium

Dodger Stadium sits, empty with only us tourists visiting. The weather was actually windy and on my way home it actually started raining; it even hailed. However, too many weekends have gone by where I wake up in the morning and just sit around not doing anything. That has to be a thing of the past especially living in Los Angeles. There are so many landmark locations that growing up over here lets you take things forgranted. So the wife and I decide to visit a historical landmark location here in Los Angeles. None other than Dodger Stadium; albeit in its off season. Although I lived in Los Angeles for over twenty... Continue Reading...

Salacious scallop appetizers at The Derby Restaurant

Salacious scallop appetizers at The Derby Restaurant

When I returned from my trip to Taiwan; I was heavily craving for some western food.  I mean a large piece of steak, some garlic mashed potatoes and some lobster.  I have always wanted to dine at the historically famous The Derby Restaurant in Arcadia, CA.  Like always, I show up to a restaurant with no reservations. The Derby Restaurant is famous in Los Angeles because it is right next to the Santa Anita Race Track and can be considered a landmark restaurant off Huntington Drive.  As you enter, you can feel the coziness and historic sense of horse racing throughout.  It is definitely a nice place to bring a date to; with its dim lighting and cozy atmosphere. Being that this was my first time here; I literally did not know what to order but took a stab at the menu. My wife and I shared... Continue Reading...
