Lakers 2008-2009 Champs!

It has been a roller coaster ride of a season and playoffs for these Los Angeles Lakers and by closing out the Orlando Magic this past Sunday in Game 5, they are once again the NBA champions.  The significant meaning of this championship is evident by its historical importance.  This will be Phil Jackson’s tenth NBA championship and he now surpasses Red Auerbach to be the greatest coach of the game of professional basketball.  This will also be Kobe Bryant’s first without Shaquille O’Neal. Our Zenmaster, maybe he'll get Ariza and Odom to return for less. However, I think the biggest significance above all to me is the fact this time around, the championship was built not over night but over 7 years.  Phil’s return and patience to teach and mentor this young group... Continue Reading...

Best NBA Playoffs headlined by Referees

Best NBA Playoffs headlined by Referees

Ever since the Tim Donaghy referee scandal tarnished the NBA last year, the league has been heavily repairing its image.  The 2009 NBA playoffs has been one of the most exciting in recent memory because of the hard battles and games played so far evidenced in the Boston Celtics versus Chicago Bulls match up and the Los Angeles Lakers versus Houston Rockets match ups.  However, a lot of this positive has been headlined by the piss poor refereeing that has been going on. Here are several examples: Boston Celtics versus Chicago Bulls Rajon Rondo nearly takes off Brad Miller’s head yet its not called a flagrant foul. Rajon Rondo throws an elbow at Kirk Hinrich yet no punishment is taken from the league. Los Angeles Lakers versus Denver Nuggets Dahntay Jones purposely trips Kobe Bryant;... Continue Reading...

Ron Artest interviews his idol, Kobe

Ron Artest interviews his idol, Kobe

I caught this on the Best Damn Sports Show last night where they showed a clip of an interview conducted last year by Ron Artest of Kobe Bryant.  Artest’s looks like a kid all excited meeting his idol.  No wonder Kobe’s got no respect of Artest’s game.  It was nice to see the Lakers play last night with a sense of urgency and spanking the Houston Rockets by 40 points.  The series goes back to Houston for game 6 with Lakers in a commanding 3-2 lead. I just hope there is a repeat performance to close out the series rather than a repeat of last Sunday’s spanking by the Rockets. Lakers Shannon Brown has insane hops

Lakers Shannon Brown has insane hops

I watched the entire Lakers game against the Hawks, even though, it was a blow out.  I’m glad I watched it because of this one high light play. This also gave me a chance to watch the new additions to my Laker squad, Adam Morrison and Shannon Brown.  I realized how horrible the Lakers typically are at the end.  Our bench reserves, third string players, are horrible.  Basically, in the 4th quarter with 6 minutes left; they could not even set any plays.  Every possession resulted in a turn over.  Good thing it was garbage time; but again, Shannon Brown is very atheletic and glad we got him on our squad now. Lakers now known as the streak snappers

Lakers now known as the streak snappers

It was the showdown we were anticipating for Christmas Day, a rematch of last year’s finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics.  Coming in, Boston had won 19 games and the outcome, Lakers ended that streak with a win down the stretch led by Pau Gasol.  Fast forward to earlier this week, Lakers faced Celtics in Boston.  Boston is riding a high again winning their last 12 games.  Outcome?  Lakers again snapped their winning streak on the Celtics home floor without the just injured Andrew Bynum.  Not only were the Lakers playing without Bynum, they had a tough game against Toronto the other night and this was a second game of a back to back. Fast forward to today; Lakers versus Cavaliers, Kobe versus Lebron.  Earlier this week, Kobe dropped 61 points on the Knicks on... Continue Reading...
