Apple’s lost opportunity to improve market share

Apple’s lost opportunity to improve market share

Apple products are quality, no doubt.  And for all the right reasons their popularity has never been higher.  But one must think how Apple squandered away the opportunity (gift) that was Vista.  It has been perfect timing for Apple to capture a larger market share but they didn’t.  They didn’t offer a product that catered to the many people like myself; whether it be a netbook, a mid-range desktop or a business laptop.  Perhaps they were too focused on the iPods and iPhone market. At the end of last year, I was in the market for a new PC as my laptop died and my other PC was just out of date to run any programs.  I had seriously debated of heading to the Apple store and picking up a MacBook Pro or an iMac.  I still had my reservations because even though friends that switched... Continue Reading...

Reason to love a Mac – OS X 10.5.7

Reason to love a Mac – OS X 10.5.7

Since building my new computer, I have been tinkering around with multiple operating systems and for the first time getting lots of play time with Apple’s Mac OS X.  Altogether, I’ve switched to using my Hackintosh for about 8 months now.  I started off using the iDeneb version of 10.5.5 install disc based on the specs of the component parts I used to piece my PC together.  Alas, several weeks ago, Apple released the 10.5.7 update and I had to update because I had skipped out on 10.5.6. I am a hardcore PC user as long as I can remember but since Vista was such a miserable failure in my opinion, I wanted to try alternative operating systems.  After trying different flavors of Linux, I came to settle on using OS X.  It just feels much more polished than what any other desktop... Continue Reading...

Mac OS X on netbook

Mac OS X on netbook

Since my HP laptop died, I have since built a new PC capable of running Mac OS X.  I like OS X.  But I do not want to spend $1,000 plus on a Macbook Pro or buy an iMac.  I do want a portable like a netbook loaded with OS X.  So, the best bet would be to get a netbook compatible of loading Mac OS X right?  Here is a comparison guide of some popular netbooks capable of loading Mac OS X with some hacks.  Some hacks much harder than others, but I completely agree with this CNet article that Apple should look at creating an affordable netbook with full support.  It’ll definitely get more people switching over to their OS. Here is my experience so far using Mac OS X: Ever since building my own PC hackintosh to run Mac OS X, I have been using it and learning more and more of Apple’s... Continue Reading...

iPhone 2.0 on 1st Generation iPhone

iPhone 2.0 on 1st Generation iPhone

Thats right; another write up of the iPhone 2.0 firmware upgrade from 1.1.4 firmware. There are reviews from Gizmodo and Engadget; but they released their articles too early.  (As expected, causing problems for those that attempted to update their iPhone non-3G to 2.0 firmware.)  Released from WinPwn, you will need to download WinPwn 2.0.0.2 (NOT 2.0.0.1 as I have tested and tried using it which failed). The main point is that most articles or forums that will explain how to upgrade your iPhone from 1.1.4 to 2.0 will have you downloading WinPwn 2.0.0.1 and give bad instructions. However, I can vouch that after following these instructions; I have successfully updated my non 3G iPhone onto the 2.0 firmware. Instructions provided from: iClarified instructions for using WinPwn 2.0.0.2 to... Continue Reading...

What’s in a display?

What’s in a display?

When I typically walk into the Apple store, I spend no more than five minutes; browsing to see if they got any new accessories for the iPhone.  However, I was stuck in the store this afternoon as it suddenly started pouring hailing rain.  The store actually is quite interesting, when it is not crowded on a weekday.  I can hop onto any Mac or laptop and actually figure the system out.  The OS is nice, a bit dumbed down from the Microsoft XP, but I think thats the appeal.  As a hardcore PC user myself, I would probably have trouble adapting and learning a Mac but for a new user to computing, I would recommend a Mac as they will pick things up that much more quickly.  Sure, Vista is going for that approach, but its just a faulty crappy OS at the moment.  I’m still sticking to my... Continue Reading...
