$3,000 = 6 Mbps

Having more bandwidth is costly, having a lot of bandwidth is expensive!  For this one week event, I brought in a 6 mbps link through Covad Wireless for $3,000.  The $3,000 gives me this 6 mbps ethernet drop off with a full Class-C of IP’s for one month.  What type of speeds did I actually get?

We all need just a bit more bandwidth!

For about $60 to $80 per month, you are able to get high speed internet access at home via DSL, cable or now FIOS through Verizon (limited to certain areas).  To the right, you can see a speed test I conducted on a DSL connection at home.  Sure it is a decent download speed but the upload is a bit slow.  That’s the problem with most home connections, the download is fast but upload is slow.  Even with typical cable providers of internet access, you have this as well.  I think most DSL and cable access have download speeds of about 5-6 mbps and upload speeds up to 1 mbps.

The kaleidescape server unit.A home entertainment media center that has all the movies and music with a graceful user-interface that rivals Apple’s software? I came across this expensive yet bad ass home entertainment unit system and I am utterly blown away. This multi-media home theater solution is called Kaleidescape and if you watched their product demo video, you too will agree that this is the future.

Why Apple should embrace open-source software for their iPhone

iphoneAfter reading an article by Engadget, I completely agree with their point of view that consumers should hold-off on buying the Apple iPhone. The reason is with their latest firmware update, it sacrifices many features that catapulted this super smart phone to an all-star status to fight against unlocking the phone so consumers cannot use the iPhone with other carriers. The 1.01 update essentially neutered the iPhone capabilities and only added the Wi-Fi iTunes store but at what cost?

A Single T-1 is NOT Enough - Part 2

If you are a meeting planner, coordinating a convention conference or expo show or the IT manager of a hotel then you will need to consider bumping up your current bandwidth if you are still using a single T-1. The reason is, a single T-1 is just not sufficient any more for holding a conference nowadays especially entering the Web 2.0 age where multimedia and interactivity is key. No more are the days where browsing the web and checking email was the only need for having internet access.
