Photoshop! What a wonderful software that lets you have complete control and being able to manipulate a photo. I have been playing around with Photoshop and air brushing images. Sure, it is cheating but how is that different from using make up and the correct lighting for normal photography? Its just the end product that matters. I see photos of Britney Spears of US Weekly that are photoshopped to the extent that it is so obvious that any novice can pick up on it. However, I must admit, she is very photogenic and is a perfect model to play around with.

As I re-learn to develop web pages and learn more about CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), it has become apparently frustrating how a simple page can look nice sitting in Mozilla’s Firefox or even Apple’s Safari but come out looking crappy on Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. And it amazes me how a large software company like Microsoft is able force feed its users to use its incapable browser. Sure, I read that IE7 will resolve all the CSS output problems it has seen since IE5 through IE6 but why can they not just fix all the problems before. In addition, if every Windows OS has Internet Explorer that comes with it, shouldn’t they be on the fore-front and be the most compliant browser available?

When I started creating an ecommerce website, I had consulted my friend 3 years ago on what would be a good choice to start with. He told me to use OsCommerce because it is open source, free and customizability. I only had knowledge of html and did not understand PHP or MySQL and I failed miserably at utilizing OsCommerce. Now fast forward 3 years to 2007 and I am again tasked to create an ecommerce site. My wife had encouraged me to give it shot and to learn PHP and MySQL. I already knew about OsCommerce from my previous experience and so I spent the next month building an ecommerce site off of OsCommerce milestone 2.
One of the first steps I took to learn about developing websites was to understand how it worked and I needed to be able to work in a close environment that is not on the internet already. From working on websites in the past, I knew about servers like Apache and script languages like PHP and databases like MySQL. I set out to mimic this environment on my laptop. There definitely is no right way, but I toggled around trying to install the Apache server on my laptop along with PHP5 and the MySQL database. It was tedious and it did not work together.

My interest in making homepages started back in 1996 when we were using Mac’s to put together a presentation for a class in high school. That is the first time I was exposed to making homepages and linking pages and drawing multimedia images for a Biology class project. After experiencing that I have always had a passion for multimedia development. Then my family bought a Windows 95 machine and (cue drum roll) 56k modem. It opened up a whole new world to me from late night chats on Yahoo! chat and IRC to creating web homepage rings on Geocities. This is also when I started experimenting with Adobe Photoshop, Corel Draw 3D and Macromedia Dreamweaver.
