Apple’s lost opportunity to improve market share

Apple’s lost opportunity to improve market share

Apple products are quality, no doubt.  And for all the right reasons their popularity has never been higher.  But one must think how Apple squandered away the opportunity (gift) that was Vista.  It has been perfect timing for Apple to capture a larger market share but they didn’t.  They didn’t offer a product that catered to the many people like myself; whether it be a netbook, a mid-range desktop or a business laptop.  Perhaps they were too focused on the iPods and iPhone market. At the end of last year, I was in the market for a new PC as my laptop died and my other PC was just out of date to run any programs.  I had seriously debated of heading to the Apple store and picking up a MacBook Pro or an iMac.  I still had my reservations because even though friends that switched... Continue Reading...

The hotel broadband dilemma

April 25th, 2009

The hotel broadband dilemma

In the hospitality industry, there is always going to be outrageous prices from the $40 for a gallon of freshly squeezed orange juice to the $250 for high speed internet access in a meeting function.  This is fairly standard pricing but the problem is, the demand for broadband internet access is becoming much higher and the need is much more common than in the past.  In addition, not only is bandwidth demand much higher so is usage demands.  These are dilemmas that network companies such as Wayport, iBahn, Swisscom, Guest Tek, Lodgenet, etc. all face day to day. These companies are in a battle because they charge a premium for their services.  The service is basically broadband high speed internet access; whether it be in the guest room, lobby areas or conference space.  The problem arises... Continue Reading...

Google to help combat piracy, musicians still unprofitable?

Google to help combat piracy, musicians still unprofitable?

Last night, I read an article about Google’s attempt to make a foot print in China, the largest up and coming consumer nation.  Goolge will offer one million music free downloads to the people living in China with an IP originating from China.  If you are not living in China, I guess you are out of luck.   They will generate revenue through advertisements as people download the music by visiting the website.  This is awesome but I don’t think this will do anything about combating piracy in China, where supposedly, 90% of all music is obtained illegally. The funny thing to me is that music artists cry about the fact that making music is unprofitable.  Some may even give up making music.  Sure, piracy is bad but don’t musicians do it for the love and talent?  If your... Continue Reading...

From OMMA Global Hollywood @ Renaissance Hollywood Hotel

From OMMA Global Hollywood @ Renaissance Hollywood Hotel

A client I am activing pursuing has been MediaPost, because I feel that they definitely can use my company’s services in regards to deploying a managed network solution for all their events.  The reason being is this event relies on the internet as all its attendees and its main theme relates to online marketing and advertising.  Since they were in Los Angeles, I decided to stop in at the venue to see how the event went as well as sit on some of the track sessions. The event did not feel very large in terms of number of attendees  and network usage did not seem very high as well.  Rather than every attendee carrying a laptop, it looked more like every attendee had an iPhone.  Perhaps its like that at all trade shows nowadays.  Perhaps people are actually paying attention to what... Continue Reading...

Jack of all trades, master of none

Jack of all trades, master of none

The title sums up my resume and career outlook at the moment and that is my main concern.  In order to be successful, you need a certain skill you excel at as opposed to being mediocre at many skills.  I am an Account Manager managing a portfolio of over 20 properties in the Southern California region, namely, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura Counties.  However, I do much more than act as an Account Manager and when necessary, I put on a different hat and hop into a different role when needed.  The exception to this is access, my company does not provide enough access for personal growth to become adept at one single skill. I have two sets of clients, one is the hotels under contract with my company and the other set is the clients that use the conference spaces... Continue Reading...
