As a tax paying citizen, why must I be subjected to horrible traffic? Sure, there are alternatives to driving such as using the poor public transportation available in Los Angeles but my job requires me to commute to any number of locations on any given day. It pretty much prohibits me from carpooling as well to save on cost.
But the way Los Angeles is laid out is just such an after thought. Due to urban sprawl and all the different smaller cities creating this giant metropolitan entity; it creates unnecessary traffic congestion. My job actually takes me from Orange County to Los Angeles County to even Ventura County. I do a bit of local traveling and need to use all the freeways and highways to get around. But at any given time, pretty much all day I can experience traffic congestion. I honestly can say I hate driving in this city and am absolutely over it.
My concern and question is where exactly are our tax dollars going? I pay a fair share in taxes to live in this state and I expect nothing less than travel at the given 55 mph or 65 mph speed limit. I do not think I need to use alternative transportation methods to get to a location on time nor do I think I have to pay for toll roads. If the sign is posted for 55 mph, then I expect 55 mph is the rate I will be traveling. Honestly, they should have cruising lower limit because when I am over the limit, I can get a ticket for speeding. Well, the government should give back with a lower threshold speed limit, meaning if we are traveling slower than the posted speed limit, which means not meeting our expectations as tax payers; then we get some type of refund. Or else, why pay taxes and why pay tickets for speeding?
Just a bit frustrated because often times than not, a simple 30 mile trip can take over an hour and thirty minutes because of congestion on a short 5 mile stretch. Some other notes I take is how interchanges from one free way to another becomes bottle neck because of poor design. Open up more lanes!!! Another note is the car pool lane, which everyone takes advantage whether they have enough passengers or not; but still, it is a heavy ticket. My gripe against car pool lanes is that its on the very inside, and by poor design of some freeways, the car pool doesn’t go to the interchange in its own express lane; instead, cars need to merge out very last minute to the far, FAR, right lane causing major slow down to get on another highway. That is just poor design. Come on, considering this is the greatest nation to live in and California having such a strong economy albeit it is slowing down; can’t we get a better high way system in place?
What do you think? Sit in the car too long? Sick of the time wasted at an interchange? Two miles away from home but it takes an extra 10 minutes? I am just sick of. Maybe its time to move on away from here…
