If you have followed the NBA for the past 5 years, no doubt the most dangerous player in the professional basketball has been none other than Kobe Bryant. The same argument can be said before that, but for the sake of argument; the guy is just simply amazing.
He has had 3 NBA championships, albeit, those were won with Shaq on the roster but that should not be taken away from him. I will always remember the Conference Finals against Portland Trailblazers, where the Lakers were down beginning in the fourth quarter. The play that defined the beginning of the first of three consecutive championships for the Lakers was when Kobe lobbed the pass to Shaq for an alleyoop dunk. Amazing!!
After Shaq was traded away, the Lakers were out of the playoffs the first year, making the playoffs twice to only to be beat by the Phoenix Suns. Kobe had his scoring title, his All-star MVP awards but now, flash forward to year 2008, Kobe will be accepting his first league MVP award. Well deservedly so because the guy has simply out played everyone and played harder than everyone. His ability to take over games at the end of games, and this year, trusting his teammates more and elevating everyone’s game around him has made him that much better. I am excited as ever, because while Kobe will finally be recognized for his individual as well as team play efforts, the Lakers are finally back in contention to win the NBA championship.
Let’s get the Lakers flags ready; lets get ready for a parade. We are doing all this even without our up and coming center Andrew Bynum and a couple others (Trevor Ariza and Chris Mihm). It’s a good time to be a Lakers fan! Congratulations Kobe! You deserve it! Now let’s kick the Utah Jazz’s ass tomorrow night!
