I been hearing about it ever since the Xbox 360 was launched more than 2 years ago (?) and even have had friends speak about it. It must have been fate because the night I experienced it, there was an article featured on Yahoo! about the high failure rate of this console. And finally the unholy sight of the Red Ring of Death do I understand what its all about. I may be fortunate that my console is actually about 2 years old and it lasted this long but at the same time; I have played less than a handful of games.
I also have my doubts that the system will be cured of this overheating cause of the red rings of death issue even when I do receive my console back. And I wonder if they will even attempt to fix it at all; since my console in question actually showed the symptoms of the system failure but after several hours of rest; it will actually power up again properly.
I am in high hopes of actually just getting a new system altogether, one with HDMI and cooler heat sinks and better fans. But I don’t think my system is as bad as most others out there but it is frustrating that it works occasionally and then decides to stop working. So far the process has been quicker than I thought though but I will save my praises for when my system returns in tact and working flawlessly. If you do have a faulty system, I do suggest you to get on the Xbox 360 support page and ship yours in. It actually does not take long; just enter your serial number and see if your system is still under warranty. Even if its not; if you have the Red Ring of Death, you will probably still be able to send it in. Please note though, use Internet Explorer on that support page as I have had trouble submitting info to Microsoft on the Firefox browser.
You will get an automated email with a tracking # from UPS for an empty box. I was lucky that they actually shipped the empty box to me right away and now I just have to return it. I will keep my fingers crossed and hope it returns back to me soon. For the time being; I will be playing Super Smash Brothers Brawl.
