Salacious scallop appetizers at The Derby Restaurant

When I returned from my trip to Taiwan; I was heavily craving for some western food.  I mean a large piece of steak, some garlic mashed potatoes and some lobster.  I have always wanted to dine at the historically famous The Derby Restaurant in Arcadia, CA.  Like always, I show up to a restaurant with no reservations.

The Derby Restaurant is famous in Los Angeles because it is right next to the Santa Anita Race Track and can be considered a landmark restaurant off Huntington Drive.  As you enter, you can feel the coziness and historic sense of horse racing throughout.  It is definitely a nice place to bring a date to; with its dim lighting and cozy atmosphere.

Being that this was my first time here; I literally did not know what to order but took a stab at the menu.

My wife and I shared a cranberry salad, which was very nice.  Light flavoring with fruits mixed with fresh greens.  I would say it would be perfect for a person that does not like greens by itself as the fruits add sweetness to the salad and the crumbled goat cheese add texture and contrast in flavoring:

We both ordered entrees.  My wife had the Triple Crown which consists of grilled tiger shrimp, 8 oz. filet mignon and bacon wrapped scallops (which are to die for).

And I ordered; as usual the lamb chops which is cooked Colorado style with special wine-reduction sauce coming with steak fries and steamed vegetables.

In addition to this; we also shared their french onion soup and had some of their garlic cheese bread.  Overall; I think the entrees were a bit over-priced and did not think the meal was as great as I expected.  The highlights for the meal would definitely be the bacon wrapped scallops (which are available to order as an appetizer, highly recommended) and the cranberry fruit salad.

If you are looking for a nice restaurant with a cozy atmopshere, dim lighting and a bit of history; make sure to check out this restaurant.  It may be a bit pricey but then again, if you just order the scallops as an appetizer and have some wine without the entrees, I believe it is all worth it.  If you are looking for a better lamb chop; I typically go over to the Outback and order their rack of lamb.  Now that is a good rack!
