I recently read through a study title “Dreams: Night School” and it basically explores and defines exactly what dreams are. After running tests on lab mice from prohibiting them ever obtaining REM sleep (dream state); these mice functioned poorly and were not able to rely on their instinctive nature to react. The article further explains the reason our dreams tentatively have a negative tone is due to the fact that in our dreams, we put ourselves in situations were we are tested to react in preparation for reality. It does make sense as most of our dreams are typically negative even nightmarish. The worst possible situations we find ourselves are typically in dreams but how we end up saving the day or overcoming it in our dream is what helps us achieve in reality.
After reading the study, it makes dreaming, the whole unconcious state yet very real appear to be much more common. I tend to have dreams where I am alone and overcome this by becoming a rockstar and famous. Maybe I am meant to be an entertainer and my dreams are helping and shaping me as well?
Some common dreams I have is to look for the nearest restroom stall, but what does all this mean? Am I preparing myself for a long duration of controlling my bladder without exercising my option to pee? I wonder.
Other dreams I had appear video game or apocalyptic movie like where great floods occur, a giant eclipse shades the city and me being able to find the keys to the car to drive away. Hmm, perhaps I am preparing myself for the worst, but what about Murphy’s law where anything bad will only get worse right?
I hope you take the time to read through the study and let me know what you think of it.
