The user-interface appears to be similar to something from Apple iTunes except it navigates through movies and music. The Kaleidescape unit is a server that comes pre-loaded with a whole lot of programming and the scalability to increase data memory for more storage. The server unit acts as the main brain unit and from there you are able to connect its Kaleidescape movie player device to any room and you will be on your way to displaying your catalog of multimedia content. (This is similar to satellite television receivers that serve two areas, but everything is via ethernet so the bandwidth is much larger in comparison.)
